Healthy Habits

If you are looking to take charge of your health and feel better every day, Healthy Habits is a FREE program that will give you the information, tools and support you need to find success! This 10-week course features one virtual class each week that includes a topic presentation and group discussion co-led by a Registered Dietitian and a Certified Personal Trainer. Accompanying the primary weekly class, there will be several additional support options available to you, including personal training sessions, in-person small group fitness classes, information sessions and discussion groups.

November is Diabetes Awareness Month and you can make a difference to those challenged by diabetes. We are partnering with Sun Life and Boston Celtics and their #SunLifeDunk4Diabetes campaign highlighting the BEST dunks by the Celtics.

   
For each dunk made by a Celtics player in November, Sun Life will donate $1,000 to the YMCA of Greater Boston’s Healthy Habits Program.

You can help raise money too! Check Celtics Twitter each week and vote for your favorite dunk. Each vote raises $1 for the Y’s program.

the 5 core habits for healthy living

PHYSICAL ACTIVITY

✔ 150-300 minutes of moderate or 75 – 150 min of vigorous intensity exercise per week
✔ Strength training 2-3 times/week

NUTRITION & HYDRATION

✔ Balanced meals following a plate model
✔ Paired snacks as needed to delay or alleviate hunger
✔ Drink 9-11 cups of water

SLEEP

✔ Sleep 7-9 hours each night
✔ Aim for quality – several bouts of 2-3 uninterrupted hours to complete sleep cycles

STRESS MANAGEMENT

✔ Raise awareness of sensations of stress in your body
✔ Evoke a relaxation response at least once each day

SOCIAL SUPPORT

✔ Seek and engage in positive social connections every day
